Privacy policy

Trakit is an on-device expense tracker. Your SMS, transactions, and settings stay on your phone. We do not run an account system, and we do not upload your financial data to our servers.

01Who we are

Trakit (“the app”) is developed by Vishnu Prasad Rajendran (“we”, “us”), Kerala, India. Contact: vishnuprasad.mec@gmail.com. Android package name: com.trakit_expense_tracker.app.

02What the app does

Trakit reads bank, UPI, and card alert SMS on your Android device, extracts transaction details, categorises them, and shows spending insights. You can also add transactions manually, set budgets, and receive optional local reminders.

03Data we process (on your device only)

Depending on the permissions you grant, the app may process:

  • SMS messages (READ_SMS, RECEIVE_SMS) — to detect financial alerts. OTP, promotional, and non-transaction messages are ignored and not stored as transactions. For messages treated as transactions, the app may keep the original message text plus parsed fields (amount, merchant, date, account last digits, payment method) in a local database so you can review and edit them.
  • Transactions you enter or confirm — amounts, merchants, categories, notes, tags, payment methods, and budgets.
  • On-device learning — merchant and category corrections so categorisation improves on this device.
  • App preferences — theme, notification toggles, and similar settings.
  • Notifications (optional, POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — daily summaries and spending alerts computed on the device. Notification content is not sent to us.

This information is stored in a local SQLite database on your phone. Uninstalling the app deletes it, unless you previously exported a backup file.

04What we do not collect

  • We do not create user accounts or require you to sign in.
  • We do not upload SMS, transactions, or backups to our servers.
  • We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or crash reporters that send personal data off-device.
  • We do not sell your data.

05Optional exports you control

If you use backup or CSV export, the app writes a file to a folder you choose on the device (or linked storage). That file leaves the app only if you copy, share, or back it up yourself (for example to Drive or another phone). We do not receive a copy.

06Permissions

  • SMS — used solely for SMS-based money management: detecting and logging bank, UPI, and card transaction alerts. SMS is not used to send messages, not used for advertising, and not shared with third parties.
  • Notifications — optional alerts about your own spending, generated on-device.

You can deny or revoke these permissions in Android settings. Without SMS, auto-tracking will not work; you can still log transactions manually.

07Children

Trakit is intended for people 18 years or older. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

08Data retention and deletion

Data remains on your device until you delete transactions in the app, clear app storage, or uninstall Trakit. We cannot remotely delete or recover your data because we never receive it.

09Third parties

Distributing the app via Google Play means Google processes install and store-listing data under Google’s policies. That is separate from Trakit’s on-device processing. The Android app does not include third-party trackers.

10Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
